  • Hello.....I have just enrolled in Professional Career Development Institute as a child day care professional. It takes about one year to complete, and teaches every aspect of child care intended for starting your own child day care business, or working for a preschool or daycare center, etc. My question is this: What can I expect to making salary wise once I complete this course. Is this a very lucrative field with opportunity to make decent money? Please tell me what most peoples starting pay is with this degree, if working for a day care center. Thank you so much in advance!

  • Rubles, this may vary, according to where in the world you live. Can you give a general idea of where in the world you'd be working? And what sort of facilities? Kriswrite

  • Hi Kris. I live in San Diego, CA. Perhaps I would work for somewhere like Kinder Care, or any similar day care center. Also one last thing.....I do not have my high school diploma. Will this present itself as a problem even with my child day care diploma????? Is the child day care diploma all I need, and do I need to be graduated in the course before I can be employed by a facility? Thanks again SO MUCH.

  • Hello rubles-ga, There is a wealth of information available about the requirements, salary levels and occupational outlook for Child Care Workers both nationwide and for your local area. Your GED will be sufficient for getting and entry-level job. If you want to advance you will have to get some specific training in the field. My research shows that there is a desperate shortage of child care workers and that California has developed some special programs to help fill the vacancies. Unfortunately, the shortage is caused by the extremely low wages and poor working conditions which lead to tremendous attrition and turnover rates. I?ve collected a wide variety of resources to help you evaluate the profession and the conditions in San Diego. I?ve also included some sample job postings from Kindercare and similar organizations. I wish you well for your career. ~ czh ~ ==================================================== SAN DIEGO AND CALIFORNIA CHILD CARE JOBS AND OUTLOOK ==================================================== http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_compresult_national_ED03000018.html The median expected salary for a typical Child Day Care Worker in the United States is $20,081. http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layoutscripts/swzl_compresult.asp?narrowcode=ED01&jobcode=ED03000018&metrocode=155&metro=San%20Diego&state=California&geo=San%20Diego,%20California&jobtitle=Child%20Day%20Care%20Worker&narrowdesc=Education Data as of May 2004 The median expected salary for a typical Child Day Care Worker in San Diego, California, is $21,045. ------------------------------------------------- http://www.ymcacrs.org/home.html San Diego County YMCA Childcare Resource Service (CRS) http://www.ymcacrs.org/providers/cdmatrix.html Professional Development - Child Development Permit & Matrix Under the Advancing Careers in Child Development: California's Plan, developed by Pacific Oaks College, the goal was to create a coordinated state system that: 1.
