Hardware is tangilble i.e. you can touch, see, etc it.
Software is intangible, you can't see it but experience it.
The printer is a hardware, but its driver is software (the printer cd software)
I Printer is not a part of a computer hardware because the computer can work without the printer. Printer is called a peripheral hardware, used for enhancement - that is for printing. The computer itself cannot print without the printer - this is the reason it is called a peripheral hardware device. It is considered as a computer hardware because is works with the computer. Components and devices inside the system itself are what can be considered as parts of the computer hardware, such as the RAM, Hard disk, motherboard, lan cards, processor and others.
Hope it helped you.
If you are chatting with Bill Gates, Microsoft refers to the driver as a 'printer' (which is soft) and the actual hardware printer as a 'print device'.
But in all other conversations, go with jimbeau's response.
A printer is thought of as a 'Peripheral'--it is not central to the computer--but that said, Yes, it is hardware.
