To put it simply, I have BPD and I've been unhealthily obsessed with the Twilight saga since I began reading it about a week ago. It's basically taken over my life, and all I can think about is how disappointing life is without well, pathetically, Edward Cullen and vampires and werewolves and the such. It depresses me endlessly. Do you think a guy like Edward Cullen could ever exist, even if vampires and such could not? (And if anyone would have any advice on the whole being utterly depressed over my obsession with life lacking the substance Twilight has, that would also help.) Any help is appreciated.
First of all, I would like to say that I am SO feeling for you, sister! I am totally obsessed with Edward Cullen myself. I live for the day that I would meet a great guy like him.
Anyway, about your question regarding if a guy like Edward could ever exist, I believe that somewhere out there in the vast planes of the earth, a guy like him DOES exist. A guy as perfect as him who was made just for us. We just have to be patient and wait for him. If you hold on to that hope, then I'm certain that one day it would happen. One day we will meet a perfect guy like him and have our happily-ever-afters. Don't give up! Think positive! ^_^
I hope that I was able to help you in what little way that I could. =)
My girl friend got me to read it because she kept saying i was just like him, so she would tell you yes.
OMg i was soooo there a few months ago, believe me the first few weeks are just crazy i mean i was " oh this looks lyk a good place for vampires" where ever i went it was crazy! but eventually it gets better, you never really get "over" it or stop thinking about it but it gets better in a looong time!!! Hope it helps!!!!!
Stephenie Meyer created a very strong male lead. Very strong and perfect. His greatest weakness is loving Bella too much. What girl wouldn't want a guy to feel that way about her? I'm sure Edward Cullens exist but it is probably extremely unlikely that they will come with the whole greek god, incredibly rich, completely understanding, perfect gentleman shbang. No one is perfect so don't get your hopes too high.
Unfortunately they do.
They are called pedophiles, stalkers, abusers, just to start. You can find them on Cops.
lol i had to go through the twilight obsession fase too. i wanted a life just like bellas, but you'll get over it and move on with life, although i sometimes do wonder about it.....
there is one perfect guy in every girls life. but exactly 100% like edward, then i don't think there would be one like him. sigh, how i wish i had a edward cullen too.....
It is like that at first. You see references to Twilight everywhere and in everything. Even after 7 months I still flip out when I see a silver Volvo. So you are in it for the long haul, get comfortable. =]
As far as Edward, I think it is entirely possible that a guy LIKE Edward is somewhere out there, but you can't hold out on normal guys waiting around for your Edward. It just doesn't make any sense.
A small part of my mind, the less logical part, thinks vampires are a possibility, and it would be something I have dreamed of since about the age of 5, finally confirmed. It would be amazing. But at the same time, my more logical sides says it just isn't possible...we can always dream though...=]
Stephenie Meyer has taken all the greatest properties of men in general which we rarely see in today's society: kindness, protectiveness, affection, old-fashioned morals, understanding, etc. She has rolled them all into one strong, amazing male protagonist. Of course it's perfectly natural to long for a guy like that! If I ran into a man as "perfect" as Edward, I'd probably flip head over heals too. That is, sadly, often the difference between fact and fiction. Society's rules have changed. Edward was the norm for his time, over a century ago.
As for your BPD, I have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder AND Panic Disorder. One of the symptoms of both of my disorders is obsessive thoughts, often troubling or even offensive that just seem to be in play-back mode and do not readily go away. Another of my symptoms is depression. Are you in counseling? A counselor will tell you to take part in psychotherapy. Here's an exercise for you to practice:
Sit down in a quiet room and choose one object. It could be the quilt on your bed, your cat in the window, even a glass knick-knack sitting in the sun. Describe the object as though describing it to a person that is there but cannot see. Describe the colors, the shape, the texture, the way the light hits it and the shadows it casts. While you are focusing so completely on describing the object, your mind cannot obsess about the more troubling thoughts. This is a method I use to control my panic attacks.
I hope this helps. :) Just think, once upon a time in Edward's time, men like him were common. Now they're just harder to find. It doesn't mean they don't exist.
(And if you really want to have fun with that thought, as long as it doesn't add to your anxiety, go research cryptozoology and look into scientific evidence of werewolves and other mythical creatures. I think you may change your thoughts on rather or not werewolves and vampires exist.)
