So i heard that if you get your cartilage pierced in a certain place that it could hit a vein and that you could lose your hearing... for some reason i just don't believe that is true... also is it better for you to get it pierced with a gun or with a needle ... because i already have my cartilage pierced and i had it done at a tattoo parlor with a needle... and i'm thinking of getting it done again ... but i it hurt extremely bad and i was going to go and get it done at a jewelry store with a gun ... help please !
I know the needle hurts but whatever you do, do not get it done with a gun!! A gun actually blows an 18-20 guage (standard piercing size) hole out from your ear! This is why if you have had it done with a gun you always feel the little "ball" that's left over. A needle actually just pushes a hole through your cartilage and doesn't remove it. This helps when you're ready to take the piercing out that it heals correctly. I date a bodt piercer for two years and had many piercings done with a needle, and everyone of them as healed the way it should!
Fiction...
Needle definately.
Guns hurt more, feel like you've been hit in the ear with a hammer, and risks shattered cartilidge, lack of sterilsation means more chance of infections, diseases and stuff too. Swells horribly, and the stupid jewellery is never long enough and can get embedded
I'm not sure about hitting a vein, but you should always get it done with a needle, the gun could smash the cartilage into a lot of pieces, thats the reason why they use a needle. If it hurts too bad, ask them to putting some numbing stuff on it.
Maybe try a different piercer, might have been technique or maybe you have a low pain tolerance. who knows, good luck with it though.
id recommend getting it done again at the tattoo shop.. i got mine done ata jewelery store wit a gun.. as well as a lot f people i know who have it done, and every single person i know including myself have developed a small lump around the back of the piercing. its from the cartilage being ruptured. but you can do either way, the bump doesnt hurt me.. it just looks a lil bad. but again, everyone i know that has there cartilage pierced has the same bump, so i guess it is normal
a gun may be faster, but in my opinion, it hurts more than getting it done with a needle. Not only that, guns are not meant to pierce the cartilage. They were invented solely for earlobes, but jewelry stores get away with doing cartilage because it's still part of the ear. The studs they pierce with are dull ended, crappy metal, and not an appropriate length to allow for swelling. Plus, the butterfly backing is notorious for trapping in germs which can cause infection.
As for the vein thing, this is not possible. The ONLY way you could lose your hearing from an ear piercing is if you get an infection thats so bad, it gets into your blood stream and infects your inner ear. The odds of this happening are astronomical and as long as you take care of your self, this wont happen.
So, get your next done with a needle. I know it hurts but I promise you it heals faster and it's so much healthier.
Needle definately.
