I will be recording guitar and vocals and i'm looking for a good condenser mic. Something in the neighborhood of 100- 300$
and xlr not usb.... psh usb

if you would like me to specify anything so you can answer the question better please let me no in an answer and ill add extra details
I'll preface by saying that I own this mic..as well as others that are more costly. However, this really seems to offer the best value/performance ratio for your budget. Many larger studios still use these for drum overheads. You'll be happy.
Rode NT1-A:

As I imagine you already know, this mic will require phantom power. A preamp of some kind will be required.
When recording your acoustic, I would recommend a placement of 6" away from the guitar...with the microphone pointed somewhere between the 12th and 14th fret (play around with positioning for the best results). This will give you the best mix of frequencies; with good string definition and natural finger noise. Avoid a placement directly over the soundhole; as it will be nothing but boom, and could potential damage the microphone.
When recording vocals, use the included shockmount to reduce noise from the floor and equipment. Take the room you're recording in and divide it into thirds lengthwise. Place the microphone in the horizontal center of the best sounding 1/3 marker with the null axis of the microphone facing the wall (with the cardiod pattern facing outwards towards the remaining 2/3 of the room). This is a great way to get a natural take and avoid direct reflections that could reduce the clarity of the vocal.
I find the NT1-A a little dark, so a 10-12khz boost will add some much needed air and presence to recording. This will give it a more natural home in the mix.
I hope it helps.
