We go to the vet every year to get my cats shots, and we have been a couple of other times for when my cats weren't feeling well, etc. We recently went because my cat has been pooping outside of the litter box and had some diarrea. The vet took x-rays and it ended up costing us $170. Would it be worth it to get some sort of pet insurance. My cats are young, but will have to get shots every year. Do you have any insurance you recommend? Or any companies?
don't have insurance but our clinic haas awellness plan that pays for spaying/neutering, shots and regular visits. only pay for extra medicine and surgeries.
the firs tyear is a good plan to get the fixing done. but second year if you have a healthy dog it's not worth it i'm told.
no. i think its a waste of money cuz no matter what you pay the vet bill when it is due at the time of service and than the insurance company reimburses you.
I dont know where you live but here theres a petsmart and inside petsmart is a banfield. We got insurance for my kitty at banfield because she had 2 be spayed and also because of the yearly shots and occasional visits. I HIGHLY recommend insurance. You save lots and lots of money just by paying a couple hundred dollars a year.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of pet insurance.
I think it would make more sense to keep an account for them, and make monthly payments to that rather than a company.
Some reputable companies if you do choose to look in to it would be...
VPI Pet Insurance
www.petinsurance.com
ASPCA Pet Insurance
www.aspcapetinsurance.com
Purina Pet Insurance

There are two more that I'm spacing on right now... one (possibly Embrace?) covers pre-existing conditions.
ETAL Petplan Pet Insurance
www.gopetplan.com - probably your best bet.
no, ive never even heard of pet insurance (other than for show dogs)
Pet insurance can be valuable if proper research is done before purchasing a policy.
You will still need to have some money in a contingency fund as pet insurance plans normally reimburse the pet owner after the services have been rendered.
It's important to learn about exclusions, benefit caps and deductibles so you know what is and is not covered by a pet insurance plan. Sometimes it might be more beneficial to have a plan that covers just extreme conditions and thus the policy would be less expensive.
You should not get shots every year! Studies have shown that most vaccinations last for many years and getting shots every year is not needed. Some shots are even suspected of causing cancer and kidney disease later on in life. If your cats are strictly indoor cats, their initial shots are sufficient. As for pet insurance, they are pretty much a waste of money. They don't pay for many bills and are basically a rip off.
