Hi
System windows xp home with SP2 with all fixes for windows and IE. Hardware HP Athalon2800 with 1gig memory.
I have outpost 1.0 on my system. After downloading all new Microsoft fixes I have received message 'error loading driver 1058'. Before load of new microsoft fixes it was OK. Tried to uninstall and reinstall outpost. Using both outpost unistall and control pannel. In both cases uninstall is not working. Did look at postings by other users and deleted all posting in windows/prefetch that did not help still get error 1058 and uninstall is not working.

Using Outpost Free 1.0 is a security risk, because it is so outdated (2002). Thanks to a bug in 1.0 (not sure which version), hacker can gain admin access to the PC. You can look at the video about personal firewalls (http://archiv.ulm.ccc.de/chaosseminar/200412-pfw/) (2004) or visit Chaos Computer Club Homepage (http://www.ulm.ccc.de/) (video and website are in german only).
you may need to follow the instructions at 1 prior to reinstalling it. have you checked your system event logs, they may have a more detailed error message which could help us diagnose the problem.

Thanks to all who had replied to my posting for help.
FIY in order to remove Outopst 1.0 I had to use Nortons Clean Sweep. Fresh install after going thru all the stems including jv16 to remove all traces resulted in same problem 'eror loading dreiver 1058'. That ended for me possibility of using Outopst 1.0. I have friend who also uses Outost 1.0 his XP has service pack 2 installed but not all the new fixes from Microsoft. We have started to install all of the fixes one at a time. And after fix to IE he did get the message 'error loading driver 1058'. Looks like Outpost 1.0 will not work with new fixes from MS. Again thans for help to all.
