  • We just launched a new service called Podcast Tags, that lets you tag your podcast episodes so that others can find them more easily! It works just like other tagging systems from Technorati and Flickr except for podcasts - you add a link in the description of your RSS item with the rel="tag" attribute, and then ping us. You can find full details at http://podcasttag.com/howto.aspx.

Check it out at http://podcasttag.com and please send us your feedback, comments, and suggestions! You can get in touch with us at our blog, http://blog.podcasttag.com

  • Same here.

Put the tags into my MovableType RSS template, so there would be a common tag in each podcast. I think that's the description tag at the top.

I also put it in an actual post. When MovableType pinged, it said it failed (didn't try the SOAP address yet though) But I pinged manually.

Nada. Maybe Feedburner is stripping the tags out? Hmmm. (Edit: nope. Just checked)

Just looked at your feed...the way Podcast Tags works is by tagging individual episodes, not the entire feed. So you need to include your "commute" tag in each item's description if it applies to every episode, not in the description of the feed.

When you submit a ping, this is what we do:

    1) Look for items that have enclosures.
    2) Look in the description of those items for links with the rel="tag" attribute.

If both of those are met, and the tag is a single alphanumeric word, we add your episode to the system, NOT the podcast, the episode.

  • Well then I'm doing somthing very wrong because I pinged and my words are not showing up. Hmm....Will have to play later tonight I guess.

  • can't get it to work. I pinged it directly as well as via wordpress. Am I missing something?

You need to have the tags in the section of your RSS feed item.

  • This is a very cool idea!

How often does the front page update?

The front page is refreshed every time you load the page right now! Obviously we'll delay it a bit if traffic gets too heavy. After you ping the site, it takes no more than 2 minutes for an item to appear :)

  • ha! im not gonna tell you what you're missing, its pretty obvious tho...

I don't see any tags in your feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/accidenthash. You need to include something like:

    mytag (http://podcasttag.com/mytag)

  • I just made a post to our blog that will hopefully clear up some of the confusion! Let me know if it helps.

  • So I need to manually edit the enclosures? That's gonna be a pain if that's the case.

The problem isn't with the enclosures. The problem is that we're looking for an RSS 2.0 feed, and your feed is like a hybrid RSS 2.0 and RDF 1.0 feed. The tags in your feed appear in sections when they should be in the sections.

  • I think Feedburner is ripping them out.

My straight up RSS feed out of MovableType shows them. Thta's what I put in manually to ping with.

    Hmm...

Actually your FeedBurner feed was fine. We discovered a bug (from another user who was pinging) this afternoon and fixed it. I re-pinged your feed for you, and your tags and episodes are now on the site!

Thanks for trying it out, and sorry about the bug!

The main difference with our service is that it's PER EPISODE, not per podcast as so many other keyword systems are. This gives you much more flexibility!

  • awesome! i hope it catches on!
